If there’s any member of these forums attending the Nokia World 09 frustrated and diappointed with the N97 please please make sure you represent. Nokia are suffering from the selective hearing syndrome at the moment anybody labbling the phone **bleep** is totally ignored despite the fact that there’s hundreds.
The local care centre told me they had about ten N97’s handed in for repairs on the day I took mine in. stuggering amounts.
I’ve had this phone for a month and everytime I try Nokia maps it doesn’t seem to work. What I would do is first find "My Position" and it doesn’t locate my current postion. All I see is this yellow bar flashing at the bottom near the ‘Exit’ button.
Ok, so as far as I know, the last (only?) Nokia phone to support opening new windows/tabs was the 7710, a great handset with a built in Opera browser. The new S60 browser supports multiple windows, but there’s no way to ask it open one on demand.. So here’s my little work around.. Pay attention there are two parts!!
First of all, there’s a web page I’ve set up:
When you open that page, there is a link that asks the browser to open a new window! Simple!
BUT.. there’s a problem..
Say I have nokia.co.uk open in the browser and I want a new window.. how do I do it.. I could go to the link above, but that would loose Nokia.co.uk and replace it with the "open new tab" page.. Not ideal.. But now there’s a way to KEEP the current page open and allow you to open a new window
First, the set up!
Visit the link above. Don’t select the Open new page link, but instead ask your browser to subscribe to the feed. This is tricky since it is not the same on all phones, but on the N97 you’d select "Options", "Subscribe to feed"
That’s it, you’re set!
Now, how to use this feature..
Let’s do a walk through..
Go to a page.. http://www.google.com/ is a good place to start..
Now, lets open a window WITHOUT loosing the google.com page..
Open up your web feeds. On the N97, you can select "Options", "Go To", "Web Feeds". Now select the "New Tab" feed, then select the item in the feed "Open New Tab" item.Click on the link and you’ll have TWO windows open.. If you toggle between them you’ll see the google window remains and the new tab is ready for use!
I’ve only tested this on an N97, E90 and 5800.. it works for me.. Strangely it works on my 7710 too.. but it’s kind of redundant since it already supports multiple windows/tabs!!
Please hit the kudo button if you like, and please let me know if you have any problems or even if you have some suggestions or improvements!
Hope you like..
Nokia, PLEASE support "open new window" and "Open link in new window" I miss those features so bad!
I have a HUGE problem and nokia wont help me with it.
When i go to dial in a number to make a call, i only get numbers. why cant i get a dialer to have numbers and letters. it gets very frustrating when say the phone number is( 1 800 CALL ME for example), there are no letters under the numbers so it takes for ever to figure which number is which letter.
If anyone else is having this problem let me know. if you have any solutions please help.
THanks
Hi
If I miss a call or sms on my 2630 the phone does not repeat an alert. so if I miss a call due then I am not alerted by the phone – I have to keep checking the phone for missed calls or sms’s.
Can the phone be set up to give alerts for sms’s and missed calls?
Thanks in advance
Hi,
I’ve just bought my first album through Nokia Music and put it on my phone from my laptop using the Nokia Music Windows App but can’t get the licence to work.
It is working fine on the computer but gives me one of two messages on my phone. It either says it is unable to aquire the licence or takes me straight to my account and tells me to buy the album again.
To make sure it wasn’t a configuration issue with the phone I have reinstalled the latest firmware.
Any help would be very appreciated.
Another point that may be relevant is that the Tools -> Actv. keys menu option doesn’t exist.
Thanks,
Gabriel
hi, i have now the new e71 – before i had a blckberry curve 8300. how can i search a company name in the adressbook?
by the curve it was no problem – the search was in all programs files ect. so it was able to find every information.
for example by the e71 i know only the company name but the phone only search names (first and second) so i will not get the number!
I mean it is a businesshandy and i have over 600 contacts and some time you only remember the company name, so is there any searchprogramm which search in all emboss of the mobile phone .
i like the e71 but if this problem will not solve a have to change to the curve – what i do not realy want.
thanks
I have tried several times with Verizon and Nokia US to get someone to address this issue.
There are some other sites that share a common theme that Verizon directed Nokia to "emasculate" the phone so that it could only sync with an internet service that Verizon cannot otherwise sell.
I am not much for conspiracy theories but- the Verizon site offers no disclosure on the subject synchronization. Nor do the Nokia site(s). Even the OVI site has nothing to offer.
Here are two sites, which one would think would be authoritative on the subject. As you will see- there is no support. Nor does there appear to be a plan for support.
http://europe.nokia.com/get-support-and-software/product-support/isync/compatibility-and-download
http://www.apple.com/support/isync/
Can anyone provide any other resource or experience that my address the need to synchronize with the Macintosh?
Thank you in advance for your kind assistance.
