hooking up a tv to a computer as a monitor

Here is my problem, I have a friend who used to have his flat screen tv hooked up as a monitor to his windows xp home edition and it worked fine he plugged it in and it came right on just had to change the display settings.  Well he switched to xp pro and when it plugs in and fires up the computer it displays the windows xp pro screen and then gets weird and no screen.  Is there anything I could do to get it to recognize the tv like home did?

WiFi

I hope someone can make this clear to me.  I want to be able to use a laptop to access WiFi when I’m away from home.  I want to be very sure that I don’t buy the  wrong laptop.  I will only be on the road about one month this year.  I have been told that a "built-in wireless LAN" means that I can access WiFi hotspots without any other equipment.  True?

Re: Time for a new PC?

It is time for a new PC – or for me, an additional PC.  I’ve done my homework – and decided on the perfect netbook.  Asus Eee 1005HA-PU1X – the current top of the  Asus netbook lineup.  It’s the only netbook that I have found to have all the bells and whistles currently available in a netbook for a reasonable price.  It includes the Atom n280 processor, b/g/n wireless, bluetooth, 10.5 hour battery (rated – but probably not really), high def audio and a great keyboard.  It’s been rated in several magazines above the Toshiba nb205 (which doesn’t have ‘n’ wireless).  Here’s my problem – Best Buy DOESN’T sell it in the store or on line.  I think that it may be an oversight since Best Buy does sell the lower 2 models – 1005HAB and 1005HA-VU1X.  Neither of these have all the features of the 1005HA-PU1X model.  Best Buy also offers the 1008HA-PU1X which only has a 3-cell battery and only 2 USB ports.  I realize that Best Buy can’t possibly inventory every model of every computer created – but in a very hot netbook market this model is a standout at a great price of $389.  Is there any way to get Best Buy to add this model to their line up?  I could buy it on line (and probably save tax) – but I would rather buy a computer from a place that I trust, offers support and offers an excellent extended warranty option.  BTW – I’m still shopping.  Do you know of any other netbook that offers ALL the features of the Asus 1005HA-PU1X?  I haven’t been able to find one, but if you have one in mind, let me know.  Thanks!

AT&T upgrade

I have a few questions. 1st, i’m eligible through AT&T for an upgrade so if i go into Best Buy will they honor the upgrade and give me the upgrade price? @nd, it says on the Best Buy website (which i know is a third party) that the phone i want to upgrade to is free with a new two year contract. So my question is if the actually phone is free with the two year contract does that mean that i walk out of the store with a free phone afteer signing a two year contract extension or is there fees to go along with it like an activation fee or some other silly fee? Any help would be great.
