Nokia N97 – Virtual Qwerty Removed?

August 13th, 2009 jedwan No comments

I saw in some demo videos presenting the phone that there would be 4 different ways of inputing text.

-Qwerty

-Handwriting

-On screen keyboard

-Virtual on-screen mini Qwerty keyboard

I bought the phone recently and I discovered that the fourth option is not there.

Can somebody confirm that indeed this option was removed from the final version of the phone?

N95 8GB stopping auto-unlock

August 13th, 2009 jedwan No comments

I’ve found settings to change autolocking settings and to disable locking when the keypad is slid closed, but is there an option anywhere to stop the keypad automatically unlocking when it is open? I’d like to manually manage all locking and unlocking…

Incompatible licences

August 13th, 2009 jedwan No comments

Hello.
I have updated to Nokia Maps 3. and every time I start Maps I get a message that says:

Incompatible licences found. to be able to use the licence, online connection is required. Connect now?

I connect and the connection icon changes as I am connect after that nothing more happens.

I didn’t have a licence that was active in Maps 2.0 before I updated to Maps 3.0, then only licence I have had is the trial you get with the phone.

I live in Sweden.

What shall I do to get rid of the irritating message?

The Ultimate Phone in the market

August 13th, 2009 jedwan No comments

I love the E71 form factor.

I love its build quality and robustness ( I have dropped it more than 10 times and no problems !).  It is the sleekest phone in the universe.

I love the fact that I can install tons of apps and never worry about it freezing.

I love its QWERTY keyboard

I hate its camera.  I guess this is addressed in the upcoming e72

I got carried away and bought the N97, but the resistive touch screen sucks and its too thick and bulky for me. Side by side with an e71, it looks like a monster.

But you know what would be the ultimate phone:

An e series phone with the same thickness and build quality as the e72.  A capacitive touch screen plus a QWERTY keyboard. A 8MP camera with a xenon flash and video recording . Plus all the features of the N-97 including its 32 gigs of memory. And a dual hot standby SIM feature.  Give me a phone like this an we will talk.

You think its too much to ask ?  just wait and see how things evolve.

cheers

Nokia E71X Profiles query

August 13th, 2009 jedwan No comments

Hi I wanted to know if it’s possible to select "OUTDOOR" in Profiles and still get the date shown on the desktop. Because I have selected it as it’s the loudest but don’t see the date on the desktop. Only the time. I can see the date and time under NORMAL profiles, but NORMAL isn’t that loud compared to OUTDOOR. I wonder why Symbian/Nokia had to design these to be different in terms of what is visible on the desktop.

Also when I create TO-DO notes using the CALENDER feature, these show on my desktop – is there anyway to hide these notes?

Thanks!

v.11.0.021 – Home Screen: Feature not supported

August 12th, 2009 jedwan No comments

Hi Guys,

Im a bit of a newb here so hopefully you can shed some light on an issue that i am having.

I have just updated my N97 to the latest version firmware: v.11.0.021 and are now having a pain of a problem.

As soon as the phone loads up after a restart it tries to load the normal home screen and cant and displays the following error:

Home Screen: Feature not supported

After this it seems to default back to the normal Menu. So I can do stuff but I cant use my home screen widgets shortcuts, calendar etc. Even the date and clock arent displaying properly.

I did the software update using NSU on my pc (windows xp) and it seemed to go though fine. After I realised that i had the issue i replugged the phone in and did a reinstall of the same software.

So the questions are (if anyone can answer even one it could be helpful):

Does anyone know what has happened here? .

Has anyone had this before?

Can i rollback to the previous firmware somehow?

When v.11.0.023 due out and will installing it over this even help?

DO I need to WIPE the phone back to factory settings?

Thanks for any help
