Browsing pc files through WiFi on E52-help?
August 29th, 2009
jedwan There are may extras on the phone, but none is explained right. So – I have a laptop and an E52. I have created an access point on the pc so that I’m using the Lan Internet as a wifi access point for the phone to browse the net. Everything’s OK, but I wonder is there an app or something else so that I can browse and download files from the pc – music or docs, through that wireless connection. And if there’s a way – pls explain me how, what apps and options should be used.
Nokia 5800 Image browsing… a nightmare
August 29th, 2009
jedwan Hi all, first sorry form my bad English, it is not my mother language…. i have a nokia 5800 express music, and i have to fight with the internal image browser in order to keep my photo organized. I can’t believe there is no a way to browse for folder… I have a lot of photos in my phone, and sure i can’t keep them all in the same e:images folder… you can surely imagine what kind of disaster will be copy move delete of even find a photo when you have 2000 in the same folder… so i have organized my collection in subfolders, by arguments. This is a logic approach, but what will do the 5800 multimedia browser? It will present you all the images as they were in a single folder… yes i know i can create virtual folder inside the browser and move the images, but… why should i do the job two times? And of course, why don’t make the virtual folder name appearing near the icon…. let’s have a 50 folder, find the right one is a nightmare. And this is only one part of the question. Why should any image in my phone appear in the gallery? I installed some games and programs, with the result that the images relative to that programs are displayed in the gallery…. Again yes, i know i can place the hide attribute to the file to prevent the insertion in the gallery, but why should i do that? i’m wondering what the folders Image, Sounds and Videos available by default on the Phone stand for. I see there is a new Photo Browser, at a beta stage, it looks great in special effects, like zooming ect, but unfortunately it is missing (again) what I need, a real folder browsing. Nokia people, do you have something against folders? Please give us a useful gallery manager with folder browsing, and let’s us decide what folder should be used when the phone searches for new images. Thanks for your attenction, Luciano
can’t connect to internet or mms on N97 Orange UK
August 29th, 2009
jedwan Just got the N97 on 26th August on orange. Switched it on and everything worked, was able to acess the intenet through packet data on the web browser on the phone – orange sent me the 2 automatic texts that set the settings – and was lso able to set up to connect to internet through my home WLAN. Everything worked great! On 28th August my old number was ported over from O2 to the Orange contract. The phone and text worked but i quickly realised that the internet would no longer work – kept getting "no gateway reply" whether on WLAN or packetdata, nor would MMS. When i returned home the N97 would no longer connect to my WLAN. After calling customer service i waited the 24 hours, but the N97 was no different – still no internet through packet data or my WLAN, and no MMS facility either . another call to CS and they redid the porting of the number. A few hours later and I am able to connect to the net through my home WLAN again, but not the N97 browser through packet data, and mms still not working. Is this likely to be the telephone at fault or Orange? I have tried the soft reset but nothing changed – will a hard reset make the phone start again from scratch? if i do a hard reset, I know i lose a lot of the applications, but do i lose the whole operating system (like when formatting a computer?) What destinations should i be able to see in the connectivity settings for it to work properly? If i do a hard reset, and switch the phone on, will it be exactly the same as when i took it out of the box so Orange sees it as a new account and resends the texts with settings? It appears that no gateway reply is quite common on WLAN connection, but what about packet data, does this make it more likely to be Oranges system not recognising my telephone number and so not allowing the connection? Any advice appreciated, thanks.

N97 Problems – Help Needed
August 29th, 2009
jedwan Hi. I was hoping someone could shed some light on the problems I am having with the N97. So far I have had 3 of these handsets since my contract with Vodafone started on 1st July and quite frankly, Vodafone customer service is appalling. All 3 handsets I have had have had the faults listed below but I seem to be getting nowhere with Vodafone about them so it seems Im going to have to fix them myself. Here goes with the faults…… * Key lock slider is slow to respond. * Phone in general works very slowly * Applications take 20-30 seconds to open, even standard ones that come inbuilt on the handset * When typing text messages, I can tap the keys on the screen to type the words, then put the phone down and watch the letters appear ever so slowly on the screen about 20-30 seconds after I have tapped them in. * Calls are dropped mid conversation, even with minimum half signal * Phone freezes, then resets itself. On restarting, all messages are deleted and email settings wiped. I have tried looking back to c: (I store my SMS on e: and don’t have f: which is the memory card slot) and they are not there either. They are just totally wiped from the handset. I have read about firmware v12 being available but when doing software updates, either over the air or using software updater on the PC, I am told that I am on v11 and that is the most up to date. If anyone can help with any of these problems, then I would love to hear from you. Maybe you could also tell Vodafone too because they openly admitted to me just this afternoon that they knew nothing about the software versions applied to the phone. So much for "technical support"! TIA
N86 Backlight on Startup
August 29th, 2009
jedwan Hello, Am getting this weird issue. When I power up the N86 and slide it to input my PIN code, the keys do’not light up! The breathing key is also "non-intelligent" . It blinks even if there are no messages/emails or missed calls. Is it a firmware issue or hardware? Thanks!
