5800 xpressmusic – blank screen all the time

I have read that some people are experiencing blank screens at certain times with this phone. My problem is that the phone after being powered up never displays anything at all. I can unlock and lock it (because the three buttons light up) and when presed they make sounds, but since I cannot see a thing i have no idea what is going on and the phone is effectively useless.

 

I have only had the phone for a couple of months. Before today it was working smoothly with no major problems at all. Then suddenly this. 

 

My phone has not used any add-ins, I use it only for the bear minimum so far, so it cannot be due to some software I have fitted on it. Also I do not use a case or anything that might affect the sensor. 

 

Does anyone know what I can do about this curious problem??
